Introduction

• Location: The Trivatinath Temple is a prominent Shiva shrine located in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Situated on Macnair Road, in the central part of the town, it is easily accessible and has become one of the most visited religious sites in the region.
• History: The temple was established in the mid-14th century following a divine revelation to a shepherd. The shepherd saw Lord Shiva standing under a banyan tree, smiling at him. Upon awakening, the shepherd discovered a radiant Shiva Linga at the exact spot where he had seen the vision. A temple was then constructed around this sacred spot, and it eventually came to be known as Trivatinath Mandir.

Puranic Significance

• The legend of Trivatinath revolves around a miraculous dream experienced by the shepherd. In the dream, Lord Shiva (Trivati Nath) appeared under three banyan trees in a dense Panchal area. Upon waking, the shepherd found a Shiva Linga near the roots of the banyan trees, confirming the divine vision.
• The temple’s foundation is tied to the Vikram Samvat 1474 (according to the Tamil Calendar), which is considered the Emerging (Prakatya) year of Baba Trivati Nath Ji Bhagwan in the form of a natural Shiva. The site gradually became a place of worship, with devotees recognizing it as a sacred spot where Lord Shiva manifested in a natural form.

1. Ancient Shiva Temple: The Trivatinath Mandir is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, deeply rooted in both history and mythology. Its origins can be traced back to the 14th century, making it an integral part of Bareilly’s spiritual landscape.
2. Renovation and Expansion: Although the temple was originally not well-maintained, significant renovations took place in 1981. During this renovation, the structure of the shrine was improved, and additional idols of other deities were installed, including:
