Introduction
- Location: The Pashupatinath Temple, also known as the Jagmohaneshwarnath Temple, is situated on the Pilibhit Bypass Road in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the newest among the seven Nath Temples in the region.
- History: The temple was built in 2003 by a local builder from Bareilly. Construction took about a year, and it has since become an important spiritual site. The temple is dedicated to Lord Pashupatinath, an incarnation of Lord Shiva known as the “Lord of the Animals.” The temple’s design and structure are modeled after the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, one of the holiest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Temple Features
- Main Temple: The primary feature of the temple complex is the Shivalinga housed within the main temple, which is panchamukhi (five-faced), a unique form similar to the one found in the Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal.
- Bhairav Temple: Adjacent to the main temple, there is a Bhairav Temple, dedicated to Lord Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva.
- Mount Kailash Replica: A replica of Mount Kailash, the sacred abode of Lord Shiva, is also located within the temple complex, symbolizing the spiritual connection between the temple and the divine.
- 108 Shivalingas: The temple complex features 108 Shivalingas, each representing one of the 108 names of Lord Shiva, adding to the significance and the spiritual energy of the site.
- Pond and Artificial Island: The main temple is situated on an artificial island, surrounded by a serene pond on all sides. This beautiful setting enhances the temple’s spiritual atmosphere, with the pond symbolizing the purity and sanctity of the temple.
- Rudraksh and Sandalwood Trees: The temple premises are adorned with Rudraksh and sandalwood trees, both of which are sacred and significant in Hindu worship, adding to the temple’s sanctity.
- Stone from Ramsetu: A special stone brought from the Ramsetu (Adam’s Bridge) near Rameswaram is placed within the temple. Interestingly, this stone is known to float on water, symbolizing divine grace and power.
Spiritual Significance
- The Pashupatinath Temple is not just a replica of its Nepalese counterpart but also a significant spiritual center in Nath Nagari, an area known for its connection to the Nath tradition and the worship of Lord Shiva.
- As one of the seven main Shiva temples in Nath Nagari, it attracts devotees from far and wide who seek blessings and spiritual solace from Lord Shiva in his Pashupatinath form.
