Introduction
Shyam Chand Temple is dedicated to Radha Krishna located in Baital village in the Joypur CD block in the Bishnupur subdivision of the Bankura district in the state of West Bengal, India. The Temple is one of the state protected monuments in West Bengal declared by Archaeological Survey of India. The temple is situated on Majdiha to Kamarpukur route.
Puranic Significance
The temple was constructed in 1660 CE by Queen Suvarnamani, wife of King Raghunatha, son of Vira Hambira of the Malla Dynasty. The temple follows pancha ratna style of architecture and stands over a low raised platform. The temple has a square flat roof with curved cornices with a pinnacle at the centre flanked by four smaller pinnacles at the corner of the roof. The pinnacles follow rekha nagara style. The temple consists of sanctum and a verandah with triple arched entrances resting on columns on all sides.
