Introduction
- Location: Sri Lakshmi Varaha Temple is a 1000-year-old ancient temple located in Kendrapara District, Odisha, India.
- Dedicated to: Lord Varaha (the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu) and his consort Lakshmi (instead of Bhudevi).
- Other Names: Also known as Lakshmi Varahajew Mandir.
- Proximity: The Brahmani River is nearby, and the temple is about 1 km from the center of Aul tehsil, approximately 146 km from Bhubaneswar.
Puranic Significance:
- Historical Background:
- The temple was originally constructed by the King of Aul, a devoted follower of Lord Lakshmi Varaha.
- The deity was originally enshrined at the Biraja Temple in Jajpur District and the Yajna Baraha Temple.
- During the month of Shraavana, the Baitarani River flooded, preventing the king from visiting for darshan (viewing the deity). Believing the deity couldn’t tolerate this, the king had a dream where the deity followed him to Aul.
- Upon returning to Aul, the king heard the sound of the deity following him. When the sound stopped, he built a temple at that spot to honor the deity.
- The current structure was renovated by the late King Sri Brajasundar Dev during the 20th century, after being in ruins for 500 years.
