Introduction
Attur Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Attur village, Kilvelur circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Two kilometres from Attur from Ilupur, and there is a Shiva temple on the roadside. A part of it has been enclosed and a government school has been built. A cement arch with Lord Shiva’s on it. This temple is also a new form of the old temple.
The Primary deity is called as Lord Agatheeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki. Here the Lord Agatheeswarar is facing east. On either side of the Lord are Ganesha and Subramanian. The Mother Soundaranayake is facing towards the south. A long mandapam has been built along with the two sanctuaries. In the middle is Nandi, facing the Lord. In front of this hall there is a statue of perumal facing east. Tenmugan and Durga are among Karurai Kotams. At the head of the hall are Bhairavarsani and Surya. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
