Introduction
Arasavanangadu Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Arasavanangadu village, Kudavasal circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Arasavanangaduis located on the Kumbakonam – Thiruvarur road. Adjacent to the main highway is the Shiva temple, the east facing temple is five feet high from the ground level like the attic temple. Here the Primary deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Ananda Nayaki.
Puranic Significance
As it was a forest full of royal trees, Araswanam was given as Arasankadu and later became Arasavankadu. This is an Anthana village formed by the Cholas, and it is one of the eighteen Anthana villages known as the Eighteen Vathimars.
From a distance, this temple looks like a royal palace. The temple of Lord Kailasanatha is thousand years old and has reached its present state after many renovations. Lord is towards the east and Ananda Nayaki is towards the south. Karurai Kottam has Tenmugan, Lingotpavar and Durga. Both Vinayagar and Murugan have separate temples. There is a separate shrine for Nataraja. In the north-east there is a big bow tree and under it there is a Tirtha well. In the long hall there is a shrine of bairavar. In the same hall there are three lingams in the temple.
