Introduction
Anaiyur Rock Cut Cave Temple is located in Anaiyur, a small sub village of Vaadikkottai in Sankarankoil Taluk of Thirunelveli district of Tamilnadu. The cave temple is carved on the hillock about half Kilometer to the south – South east of Anaiyur. It is carved on the foot hills and it is facing west. Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord Shiva. The cave consists of Mandapam with facade and sanctum is made at the height of 55 cm from the ground. The cave can be reached with the help of Stone rock from south and some strip rock form as steps for the entrance.
The cliff gradient extends forward so that there is vast ground spread in front of the cave. The variations in ground plan help to form as a lunar shape stone. The rock temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. Anaiyur is located about 2 Kms from Vasudevanallur – Sankarankoil Road. The cave temple is carved on the hillock about half Kilometer to the south – South east of Anaiyur. Nearest Railway Station is located at Sankarankoil and Nearest Airport is located at Madurai.
