Puranic Significance
There are 163 temples built and worshiped by Agathiyar when he travelled towards the south, and this temple is one of them. The Lord is facing east as a medium-sized lingamurthy. The deity has a shrine towards the south, with a gabled roof in front. Nandi is outside the lord sanctum. At the gate of the sanctum sanctorum there is a small Lord Ganesha on one side and a two-armed Murugan on the other. There is no such thing as kosthas around the womb. There is a large bow tree in the prakaram. Navagrahas are in the northeast. The Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old
