Name Significance: The temple is named “Nithya Kalyana Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal,” which translates to “Lord Venkatesa who is eternally happy and blesses with marital bliss.” The temple is considered a “parihara sthalam,” which means it is a place for seeking remedies or blessings.
Location: Aappur Village is situated approximately 5 kilometers from Singapperumal Koil and is easily accessible from the GST Road. The temple is perched on a hill and can be seen from a distance.
Marriage Darshan: According to the temple’s legend, Lord Vishnu gave a special darshan (vision) to sages and Rishis here, revealing His “Thirumana Kolam,” which is the divine marriage form of Lord Vishnu with His consort, Goddess Lakshmi. This aspect of the deity is why He is known as “Nithya Kalyana Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal.” Goddess Lakshmi is believed to be present in an “Aroopa” form here.
Sage Agasthyar’s Penance: Sage Agasthyar, a revered figure in Hindu mythology, is said to have performed penance at this temple. It is considered unique because it is a Vaishnava temple where Sage Agasthiyar is associated.
Hill Temple: The temple is located on top of a hill known as “Oushadhagiri,” which translates to “Medicinal Hill.” The temple follows the principles of Agama Shilpa Shastra.
Steps to Reach: To reach the temple on top of the hill, one needs to climb about 500 steps. The temple’s hill is called “Oushadhagiri,” emphasizing its connection to healing and medicinal properties.
Age of the Temple: The temple is believed to be more than 1,000 years old and is considered a significant historical and religious site.
Temple Structure: The temple is relatively small but beautiful. It consists mainly of the sanctum sanctorum and the mandapam around it. The main deity, Sri Nithya Kalyana Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, faces east. Lord Garuda is present in front of the sanctum, facing west.
Special Features: The temple’s sanctum is decorated with concrete images representing the Dasavathara, which are the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. It is worth noting that in this temple, Lord Vishnu is portrayed as wearing a saree. Additionally, it is believed that the goddess (Thayar) is within Lord Venkatesa’s heart, and as a result, there is no separate sanctum for the goddess.
Ruined Temple: While visiting the temple, you can also spot a dilapidated brick structure on the way, which is another temple that is now in ruins.
