Introduction
Ayyampettai is located on the Kumbakonam- Tanjore road, about 2 km south of Ayyampettai railway station. The town is divided into two halves, Mangudi and Agarmangudi. There is a Shiva temple at the west end of Vellalar Street and a Kaliamman temple in the middle of the street. By fate, only two families live near the temple. The key to the temple is in that house. Lord Arunachaleswarar to the east, Goddess Abhithagujambal, small Nandi in front, Ganesha in Prakaram, Murugan, Hanuman, Byravar, Lord Saturn, Navagraha, big vilava tree. The small temple though has an attraction when standing in front of the Lord. There our sinful accounts are settled. It is in our hands to continue to have this attraction for the next generation.
Puranic Significance
Nallur, the herdsman of Ponman, is looking for a deer named Morrison in the Ramaseeda epic. This is evidenced by the fact that the towns in this area are Manthangiyagaram (Madakaram), Mannallur (Manallur), Pullamankudi (Pullamangudi), Manmeyandathidal (Matiyantidal), Peruman Gudi (Perumangudi), Perumankal Nallur (Perumakanallur) Man Kundu (Mangundu), Mayamanpet (Nayakanpet) is also known as Mankudi. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
