Introduction

Thrippaloor Narasimha temple is situated in the 17th ward of Thavanoor Panchayath of Ponnani Taluk, Malappuram. Towards south of the Thavanoor-Nariparambu road, the temple lies right to the Thavanoor Juma Masjid road. This place has Hindu- Muslim mixed population. Muslims are in majority. From the tar road towards the west there is a mud road which goes through the temple compound. In the compound towards 15 meter west a tile roofed mantapam could be seen. This is where the Idol of Narasimha is placed. Towards the north east of this there is a well, the sacred well. The mud road towards west goes between this mantapa and sacred well. An ancient Balikkallu was found in the middle of this muddy road. When asked about the existence of Balikkallu in the middle of road, Mandharath Jagannivaasan said helplessly that, the road was built through the Temple compound by Muslims.

Puranic Significance

The temple pond is 30 cents in area. We could see a Muslim woman washing her clothes in the pond. Some kids were playing in the pond too. The Muslim population is using the Thripaloor Narasimha temple pond for washing clothes and bathing. Thrippaloor Narasimha temple was huge with compound walls, gateways etc. A huge floor was found. The temple was demolished at the time of Hyder Ali’s invasion. The army converted Hindus of the locality into Muslims and destroyed the idol of Narasimha. This was an east facing Mahakshethra. After invasion the temple stayed afforested. The information about sub shrines is not available. Thirumanassery Devaswom owns the temple. It is said that they abandoned the temple. They believed that revenue can’t be generated even if they reconstruct the temple. Jagannivasan told that the Devaswom will be ready to give the temple and land if someone shows genuine interest for development.
