When Lal Khan, who was a minister in Arcot Nawab cabinet, came to this area 200 years ago, he established an Islamic settlement in the Veeranam Lake area.The area where they lived was called Lalkanpet and later became Lalpet.Before his arrival, Chandrasekarapuram was said to be the name of this town, One of the two Shiva temples in the city is the Kasiviswanathar temple and the other is the Chandrasekhar temple.It is said that the lingam which was in the Chnadrasekar koil was placed outside the temple as it was in the middle of a Muslim settlement and had gone unoccupied.
