Introduction

Ancient Sri Thapasviraya Swamy Temple is about 80km from Mysore, located in Devara Madahalli village. Ancient Chola Dynasty temple with 101 kamba It is said that after Sri Mahalakshmi left Vaikuntha due as Brigu Maharshi hit Lord Vishnu’s Chest. Lord Vishnu too left Vaikunta to in search of Sri Mahalakshmi. After series of efforts lord went into Meditation mode “Tapasya” Hence lord became in the form of Idol and further named as Tapaswiraaya. The Lord is said to be very peaceful deity and one can experience inner peace. The temple pillars are in bad shape. And plants are grown in temple gopuram.
