Introduction
Rajarajeswaramudaiya Mahadevar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Sivapuram Village near Thakkolam in Thiruvallur District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Rajarajeswaramudaiya Mahadevar / Theerthapaleeswarar and Mother is called as Kamakshi Amman. This temple was built during the Chola period, (10th century CE) of the great Chola Emperor, Raja Raja Chola I. The inscriptions belonging to the period of Raja Raja Chola and Rajendra Chola are found in this temple. This is an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) maintained Chola Temple. This temple is built of stone. The Eka Thala Vimanam of the temple contains Boodha Ganas and Elephants. The deities have been carved exquisitely. There is no tower (gopura) or flag staff in this temple. Nandi and bali peetha are found facing the sanctum. There are Garpagriha, Asthiranam, Arthamandapam and Mukhamandapam in this temple. The Dwarapalakas of the temple depict the wonderful sculptural art of the Cholas.
