Tanjore District, Kumbakonam-PoundarikapuramSomanathaswamy Temple is located at a distance of 2 km from Kumbakonam-Ayyavadi-Murugankudi. Anandan, Karkodakan, Poundarigan, One of the seven dragons Poundarigan worshiped the Lord here so it became Poundarigapuram. That is why he is the Lord to be worshiped to cure Naga dosham . The temple dates back to the late Chola period – Kulothunga I .The SomanathaSwamy Temple in Poundarikapuram is an adjunct to the Kasiviswanathar Temple in Kumbakonam under the administration of the Hindu Religious Endowment Board.. The temple is also the place where Yema worshipped f Lord Shiva. The ancient temple has ebony carvings.To the east is the Temple ArthaMandapam as the Home Hall. There are no compound round walls of the temple, the upper floors of the hall are overgrown with weeds .The temple which is a very great and exceptional artistic beauty is completely in ruins.
