Introduction

Konganeeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Kaveripakkam Town in Vellore District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Konganeeswarar and Mother is called as Kungumavalli. This is an ancient west facing Temple. Presiding Deity is facing west. Mother is facing north. There are shrines of Ganesha, Muruga with consorts, Nalwar, Surya, Nagas, Karaikal Ammaiyar, Balasubramanya, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Veerabhadra, Lakshmi Narayana and Navagrahas in the Temple premises. There is a big pond is present near this temple. Excess water from Kaveripakkam lake reaches this pond during rainy seasons which indicates that lake has reached its actual capacity

Puranic Significance

Kaveripakkam is well known for its lake which is the biggest in this district. It was built by King Nandivarman III of Pallava dynasty (8th Century AD). The length of the bund is 8.35 Kms. This place was called ‘Kavithapakkam’ during the reign of the Pallavas. Recent excavations have unearthed 16th century artifacts such as pottery materials and burnt clay products. These artifacts are now displayed at Government Museum in Vellore
