Introduction

Aviyan is one of the Sangakkala vallals (Very generous person) 15 km from Panruti. Aviyanur can be reached by taking the Panruti-Tirukoilur . The village has an ancient Jalasayana Shiva temple.Attempts to renovate the roundabout of the temple turned up only the Shivalinga Audaiyar (circular part of the Shivalinga). Aviyanur is a town of historical significance dating back to about 2,000 years. There are two temples here, Shiva and Gotandarama Temple. In 1993, the Archaeological Survey of India discovered six inscriptions in the town. Currently 2 more inscriptions have been found. Therefore, it is known to have been rebuilt over 500 years ago after being demolished from an ancient temple. The east-facing temple is built of granite and the plane is made of brick. The main gate is on the south side. Since it is a window temple, one can see the Lord only through the black stone window on the east side of the temple. .
