“ADHI VINAYAKAR TEMPLE, HUMAN FACED GANESH”

The word “Adhi”
means primordial or ancient. The name Nara Muha
Vinayaka
derives from the word Nara meaning human and mukha meaning face. The
only temple in the world of god Ganesh having his original head, before it was
replaced with elephants head. Aadi Vinayakar temples is the only temple in the
world where “Vinayakar is seen with a
human face”.
The rest of the world will see him with “Elephant face”. The temple is located at Poonthottam, in
Tamilnadu, about 4 hours drive south east of Trichy towards Poompuhar.
Vinayagar is seen with a human face, for he was such before he was slayed and
his head replaced with a elephant head. Here he is known as “Narmukha Vinayagar”. Devotees believe
that Maha Guru Agasthya Himself worships the Adi Vinayaka on every Sankatahara
Chathurthi Day. It is also believed that worshipping the Ganesha here brings
peace in the family relationships and with the blessings of the Vinayaka,
children’s memory is boosted.
