Introduction

Mahadeva temple exists inside the forest they see every day led the believers of the place Paruthikkotu into the forest. Through the shrubs, while heading towards the small hill, all Kunjan had to tell was about the Parithikkotumanna temple. Paruthikkottumanna Mahadeva temple situated at the Vilayil Area of Muthuvaloor Panchayath at Kondotty Thalook, Malappuram District. Huge granite pillar and a Balikkallu laid down at the shrubs. Nearby there is a big office of the temple committee. There were five foot tall rectangular granite pillars placed on the four sides and in between there was a small survey pillar like stone seen, which is believed to be the one where the elephants wearing Swarnathidambu (golden ornament) during festivals was tied to. Towards south Siva and Ganapathy’s idols could be seen placed in two rooms. Kunjan said that it is the Balalayam. The demolished temple complexes floor is still there in the premises. In the centre I could see a circle floor of a sanctum sanctorum. In the middle of this there is a square part of Garbhagriha

Puranic Significance

The sacred well is in the southwest of the temple. The ruptured idols of Siva and Ganapathi were found from this well. There is no clear information about origin and history of the temple. The representatives of Vasthuvidhya Prathishta has documented that Paruthikkottumanna Mahadeva temple could have been built somewhere in between 300 and 900 AD. As the concept of Guru exists it can be assumed that an Acharya build the temple. In front of the floor of sanctum there is left over of a ruptured Balipura. It is undoubtful that this was once in prosperity. They were earthen sculptures that they got while removing the soil from the premises. They also have kept a metal dish with ears, some metal pieces and a special kind of sculpture of a god which was half chopped.
