Introduction
The Kongaraya Nallur can be reached by traveling 2 km on the road to the south of the Amber Magalam Temple. There is a Shiva temple here. It is not known when and by whom the temple was built. However, the present temple has been remodeled in the urban style within three hundred years. It has been managed by the Pillaimargal who have lived in this town for the last centuries. Although it is currently in the possession of the Department of Religious Affairs, the Pillaimargal used to set aside land for this purpose in the name of temple subsidy. The maintenance of the temple and the pujas have come to a standstill as the community has started leaving the lands for outdoor work.
Puranic Significance
The temple faces east and is as elegant as the Artha Mandapam and the Mahamandapam. Lord Abathakayeswarar is towards the east and Goddess Dharmavarshini is towards the south. Ganesha and Murugan are at the gate of the sanctum sanctorum. Thenmugan is the only deity of the lineage. Thirty years ago, Swami would depart from here for the Soma festival and go to Amber Magalam. At present the saints are kept in the Thiruvarur safe house. People also do not come to daily worship. Is the situation in most of the village-town Shiva temples. With the advent of the Land Ceiling Act, most of the Shiva-worshiping Saiva communities began to leave the villages. Thus the shrines they managed in the villages were handed over to HR&CE. Subsequent government departments did not come to the village and collect paddy, so the temple maintenance, staff salaries, and temple requirements all came to a standstill and the temples came to a standstill. However, the temple, which was maintained by the ancestors, is expected to be restored. # “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
