Introduction
Ancient Buddhist caves present here in eastern ghats of Guntupalli gave this village a historical recognition to be called as ‘Andhra Ajantha”. Buddhist Caves, Aaramas, Sthupas, Chaithyas present here dates back to B.C to 3rd century A.D. Flourishing of Buddhism for about six decades made this place as an important Buddhist Kshetram in Andhra Pradesh. It is also known that recently found Maha Meghavahana Sirisada inscription and Kharavella inscription revealed the flourishing of Jain culture in this place. Really everybody gets wondered by seeing the architectural skills of those days and feel proud of our ancient culture and heritage. Buddhist rock-cut temples and structures were often located near trade routes and became stopovers and lodging houses for traders. Their interiors became more and more elaborate as their endowments grew. A notable trait of rock-cut architecture is the crafting of rock to imitate timbered and carved wood.
