Introduction

Chamravattom Kannannoor Pisharath temple is situated in the Vettam Pallippuram village of Thriprangodu Panchayath in the Malappuram district. Pisharam is the name given for the house where the Pisharodis (temple class people) live. Kannannur is the family name of the particular Pisharam. The temple mentioned above is a family temple of the family. This temple lies towards south East of Chamravattom Sastha temple. The temple had two sanctorum of which one had a Sivalinga and another had Mahavishnu made of Panchaloha (5 metals). The Siva temple also had Ganapathi as a Deity. The temple situated at the banks of Bharathapuzha is believed to be destroyed at the time of Tipu’s invasion. The Pisharam was once royal that included ‘Naalukettu’ and the temple in 86 cents. Jayadeva Pisharody, son of Vasudeva Pisharody, described about the temple and the connected things to us. The land around the Pisharam is called ‘poonattu parambu’ as these were the lands given for cultivation of flowers. The ancestor for this family was Subbarayan who lived at Puthupalli, four furlong from Thriprangodu Panchayath. When they built Kannannur Pisharam they brought the idols they worshipped there also along with them.

Puranic Significance

Whoever watches the temples current state will be shattered. The temple of Ganapathy has gone under the soil. The Siva temple is over covered by shrubs and thorny plants and the shrine is decayed. The sanctum sanctorum has no roof. The temple complex is built in red stone and the two temples stay 3 meters apart. Mahavishnu temple also is in the same pathetic condition. The platform where the idol was placed is present but nothing. Both the temples were in square shape. Pathway around and the sacred well are all vanished. The temple is almost 5 meters under beneath the soil. Jayadeva Pisharody said that the temple was last demolished at the time of Moplah riots. The Panchaloha Vigraha of Vishnu was thrown into the sacred well. They took all the gold ornaments too and later in a flood at Bharathapuzha the temple was covered under soil. Jayadevan wants to form a trust to take care of the temple and the land. Though he isn’t ready to transfer the ownership of the temple, he is ready to cooperate with the renovation process. He is also trying to sell off some of the land attached to the Pisharam, for which some Muslims are ready to buy. The current state of the Pisharam is not that good, the courtyards are no more. There is no special pathway towards Temple too. There is Nila Tourism Park towards the east and Bharathapuzha river lies next to it. There is idols of serpents and a Kaavu (sacred grove) present too. They possessed Chithrodakkallu before and not now. The expected estimated expenditure for the renovation of Temple is 30 Lakhs in Indian Rupees.
