Introduction
Baburajapuram is located on the Outer Ring Road west of Kumbakonam. The word Babu means Lord. It can be considered as the place where the Lord showed his beauty. Here is the oldest Chola learning Shiva temple. The temple, which earlier had three prakaras facing east, is now occupied by several prakaras with a single prakara. The Lord is called here the Maluventiya Nathar because he showed the Maluventiya Kolam. The goddess is called Prahannayaki. The high sanctum sanctorum has a beautiful sanctum sanctorum with a plane and beautiful temples with lotus pillars. Dakshanamurti is located on the south side. On the back side, there are no lineage deities in the north, only Durga is pulled slightly out of line. # “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
Puranic Significance
The construction of the temple is 800 years old. The Artha Mandapam in front of the sanctum sanctorum has a front hall attached to the Ambika sanctum in front of it. The idols of Iyanar and a Mariamman who were elsewhere in the Ganesha in the front hall are also worshiped here. To the right of the sanctum are a pedestal, a large head and two statues in handcuffs. The Lakshminarayan Temple is located in the south-west of the Prakaram, and it is not known whether the temple was brought here under separate occupation and built as a separate sanctum sanctorum. Puja is held both in the morning and in the evening. Mani, a young man and his elderly mother are the only ones who keep the temple open and wait for the devotees ….
