Srardham - lightuptemples

“Srardham,” also spelled as “Shraddha” or “Shraadh,” is a meaningful Hindu ritual deeply connected to showing reverence to one’s ancestors and departed forebears. This ceremony serves as a way to pay tribute and seek blessings for the souls of deceased family members, particularly parents and grandparents. Srardham is customarily performed on specific dates in accordance with the Hindu lunar calendar or during particular lunar phases. One notable occasion for this ritual is during the Pitru Paksha period, a 16-day lunar fortnight dedicated to the veneration of one’s ancestors.

  • Honoring one’s ancestors in this manner is thought to accumulate spiritual merit, which can contribute to an individual’s own spiritual growth and well-being.
  • This practice is believed to grant peace and blessings to the departed ancestors, which in turn can have a positive influence on the overall prosperity and harmony of the family.
  • It is also believed that appeased and blessed ancestors continue to watch over and protect their descendants. The act of performing Srardham is a way to seek the guidance and protection of one’s forefathers, ensuring their continued benevolent presence in the lives of their living family members.
