Shraddha Karma In Srirangapatna
Shraddha Karma in Srirangapatna is a solemn ritual dedicated to honoring and remembering our ancestors. It involves the acts of Pinda pradanam (offering rice balls to the departed souls), tarpanam (ritual libations), and providing daanam (donations) to Brahmins. This significant ceremony takes place on the banks of the sacred Kaveri River.
The Shradha karma procedure primarily comprises the following key steps:
- Ganapathi Pooja: Commencing the ritual with the worship of Lord Ganapathi, the remover of obstacles.
- Pinda Pradana: This involves the offering of pindas, which are rice balls dedicated to the ancestors and mixed with ghee, banana, honey, milk, and curd. The act of Pinda pradana should be carried out with the utmost dedication and faith.
- Tarpana: The ritual of Tarpana entails the offering of black sesame seeds (Til) along with water as a form of libation.
- Swayampaka Danam: This step involves giving Danam, which may include offerings such as vegetables, rice, dal, and other food items to Brahmins.
These rituals collectively serve as a means of showing respect and honoring the memory of our forefathers on the anniversaries of their passing.
