Pitru Paksha Shradha At Gokarna

Pitru Paksha, also known as Mahalaya Paksha, is a 15-day lunar period during which our ancestors (pitrus) are believed to visit the earthly realm. During this time, it is customary for the eldest son of the family to perform the shradh (ritual offering) to honor and appease the departed ancestors. Other family members participate in the ceremony, and a Brahmin bhojan (meal) is organized as an offering to the pitrus. This ritual is performed to seek blessings from our ancestors and ensure their peaceful journey in the afterlife. Gokarna is revered as one of the seven significant Hindu pilgrimage centers in India. This sacred place is often referred to as Bhoo Kailash and the Kashi of the South. In ancient texts like the Shrimad Bhagavata Purana, Gokarna is mentioned as the residence of the brothers Gokarna and Dhundhukari. Pitru Paksha, also known as Mahalaya Paksha, is a 15-day lunar period when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors. In the year 2023, Pitru Paksha is observed from September 30, 2023, to October 14, 2023. This solemn observance involves rituals like Pinda Pradan, Tarpan, and offerings of food to Brahmins. Performing these ceremonies with deep faith and a serene mind ensures that the Karta (performer) receives the full benefits of the ritual, and the blessings of their ancestors are believed to be upon them.
