Introduction

Neelakantha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Lakkundi Village near Gadag Town in Gadag District of Karnataka. You can find this temple located approximately 1 kilometer from Lakkundi Bus Stop.

Puranic Significance

This small temple dedicated to the presiding deity Neelakantha is in a state of ruins. It dates back to the Chalukyan Era and was constructed in the 11th century AD. Unfortunately, the temple has lost its shikhara (tower) and mandapa walls. Stones have been placed over the walls, giving the temple a partially reconstructed appearance. It is noteworthy that this temple is one of the few surviving monuments out of the 101 temples that were once built in Lakkundi. The temple is recognized as a monument of national importance and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
