Introduction
Kulumani Amman Temple is located in the Kulumani village, Trichy district, Tamilnadu. Here the presiding deity is called as Goddess Uradachchi. She stands as a guardian deity in Kulumani village. The Temple is believed to be 500 years old. Uradachiyamman Temple is located in the northwestern part of the town. Uradachchi Amman Temple is located at a distance of 10 km from Trichy and a distance of 5 km from the Kulumani bus stand.
Puranic Significance
People say that she is the goddess who guards the city and protects the people by destroying the evil spirits and that she throws a flame of fire at the hair of this deity and at its feet is a form of Parasakti who saved the world with a monster called Mahishasuran. The hen guards her eggs and chicks; like that the goddess Uradachiyamman guards the village. This Uradachchi goddess is the Kuladevam deity of hundreds of families.
Beliefs
Devotees say that infertile women come to the shrine of the mother on six full moon days to worship and offer prayers. Then in the third month after they become mothers, the mother gives a baby shower and the devotees express their gratitude.
Festivals
Special worships to the Goddess are held on the new moon and full moon days.
