Introduction

Shri Prakasheshwar Mahadev Temple is a temple of god Shiva, located on Dehradun- Mussoorie road in Uttarakhand. This temple is popularly known as Prakasheshwar Mahadev temple. Lord Shiva in the form of Crystal Shivling. There are many Shiva temples in Dehradun, but this Shiva temple is unique special temple in India.

Puranic Significance

The temple is always filled with the number of devotees during the month of Sawan and the festival of Shivratri. Sri Prakasheswar is the unique temple as the name of the temple is very unique and no other temple of Lord Shiva has this name in Dehradun. ‘Prakasheswar’ is combining two Hindi words where ‘Prakash’ means ‘light or rays’ and ‘Eshwar’ means ‘God’. There are thousands of name of Lord Shiva which is mentioned in the book known as ‘Shiva Sahastranamavali’ in which Prakaashaay’ is one of the names which means ‘the light of the knowledge’. The Prakasheshwar temple of Lord Shiva is more than 1000 years old shiva Temple, it owned by private board. Due to this temple being on the mountain, the beautiful view of Dehradun can be seen. One of the features of this temple is that no devotee can offer money in this temple that is because according to the temple organization, what we can give to Lord Shiva, we only get from Lord Shiva. Therefore, at some place in the temple premises, on the note board, please do not give any kind of donation to the temple. Due to this feature of the temple, this temple is very famous because it is the only temple in India where no donations are taken. And there is no donation box around the temple or within the temple. You just allowed pouring holy water on the Shiva Linga as there are many pot and water services to offer water on Shiva Linga.
