Introduction

This Shiva Temple is located in the town of Karambakudi, Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu, India. Karambakudi Municipality is located at a distance of 39 km from Pudukkottai and 23 km from Pattukkottai. The name of the Lord in this temple is Anandeswaramudaiyar and the name of the Goddess is Akilandeswari. The temple is of historical significance and is in a state of disrepair for many years.

Puranic Significance

All the shrines, including the Rajagopuram, are built of brick. The temple is more than 1000 year old Shiva temple. There are separate shrines for Lord Shiva, Ambal, Ganesha, Murugan, Chandikeswarar and Bhairavar. The main planes of the temple, including the Rajagopuram, were in a state of disrepair. Reconstruction work and consecration of the temple was halted due to various reasons. Attempts to do so over the past 100 years have stalled. In this situation, the renovation work of the Karambakudi Shiva temple was started to renovate and conduct Kumbabhishekam. Temple guard Mr. Chidambaram said that the work has been suspended due to lack of funds due to Corana.
