Asthi Visarjan at Alandi – lightuptemples

Asthi Visarjan

Alandi holds a sacred significance where the immersion of ashes, known as Asthi Visarjan, is believed to assist the departed soul in breaking free from the cycle of rebirth and attaining ultimate peace. The term “Asthi” refers to the remaining bone fragments or collected ashes of the deceased. After the final funeral rites, the remains of the deceased are typically gathered and securely bound within a piece of cloth. Eventually, these ashes are released into serene waters, mirroring the calm flow of a river. This comprehensive process of immersion is referred to as “Asthi Visarjan.” The collection of Asthis can occur either on the day of cremation or on the 3rd, 7th, or 9th day after the last rites. It is advisable to gather the Asthis on the 3rd day following the cremation ceremony. If the immersion of Asthis is planned after the 10th day, it should only be done following the completion of the tirtha-shraddha ritual.
