Puranic Significance

The Temple is believed to be 500 years old. This Temple is facing towards east and is circular in plan. The interior is designed like a Shiva Lingam. The circular sanctum is of two levels. The upper level can be accessed through flight of twelve steps. The twelve steps represent the twelve zodiac signs (Rasi). It is a belief that devotees climbing the twelve steps to reach the sanctum will be relieved from the doshas. Padi Pooja is performed on Chitra Pournami day every year. The upper level of the sanctum enshrines the presiding deity, Bhairava. The idol is enshrined in a transparent glass enclosure. The stairs behind the sanctum to reach the presiding deity is designed in such a way that no devotees show their back while leaving the sanctum. The lower level of the sanctum enshrines the Ashta Bhairavas, Saptha Rishis in the form of stones and Saptha Kannigais in the form of brass lamps. Shrines of Pancha Mukha Anjaneya, Pratyangira Devi, Subramanya with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Rudra Vinayaga, Vaishnavi Devi, and Naga Rudra Eswara can be seen in the temple premises.
