  • Enclosed by a granite wall, the temple features a five-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower).

Puranic Significance

  • Two demons, Madhu and Kaidapar, tried to abduct Sri Devi and Bhoodevi while Lord Vishnu rested on Adhiseshan (serpent bed).
  • Sri Devi hid in the bosom of Vishnu, while Bhoodevi sought refuge under His lotus feet.
  • Adhiseshan spat venom to repel the demons but feared acting without Vishnu’s permission.
  • Lord Vishnu reassured Adhiseshan that his actions were righteous. As a symbol of this event, Adhiseshan appears with a shrunk head in the temple.

  • The main statue of Sathyamurthi Perumal, standing seven feet tall, is placed on a rock, accompanied by His consorts.
  • The adjacent sanctum houses a Mahavishnu sculpture in sleeping position (Ari Thuyil), symbolizing awareness while resting.
  • This reclining posture of Mahavishnu is one of the largest examples found in temples.

    • A ten-day festival, attracting thousands of devotees.
