1. Introduction:
   • The Sulur Vaidyanatha Swami Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Vaidyanatha Swami) and his consort Mother Thayyal Nayaki.
   • Located in Sulur village, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, this temple is considered equal in significance to the Vaideeswarar Temple in Nagapattinam.
   • It is particularly known for its association with the planet Mars (Sevvai) and for helping devotees seek relief from the adverse impacts of Rahu and Ketu.
2. Puranic Significance:
   • Sulur was part of the ancient Kongu region and was home to various divisions like Vayaraikal Nadu, Palladam, and Pollachi.
   • The temple’s history traces back to the reign of Karikal Chola, who discovered a swayambu (self-manifested) idol in the area during deforestation efforts. He built a small temple and consecrated the idol.
   • The temple is situated near the Noyyal River and Sulur Tank, which enhances its sanctity, as temples by water sources are considered especially holy in terms of Murthy (idol), Sthala (place), and Theertham (holy water).
   • The temple is known for healing diseases that even doctors couldn’t cure. For example, a bank employee in Tiruppur was cured of a skin condition after praying and using the abishek (holy oil) from the temple.

   • Devotees pray to Lord Vaidyanatha Swami for relief from obstacles in marriage and the negative influences of Rahu and Ketu.
   • Special rituals, like applying gingely oil to Lord Nandikeswara and wearing the garland, are believed to help in the timely completion of marriages. Lord Nandikeswara is revered as Kalyana Guna Nandikeswara for this reason.

   • Notable shrines within the temple include Lord Vinayaka under the Arasu tree, with planets Rahu and Ketu, Lord Muruga with consorts Valli and Deivanai, and several other deities such as Lord Ayyappan, Dakshinamurthy, and Santana Bhairava.
   • A famous story involves Lord Vaidyanatha Swami appearing in a devotee’s dream and guiding her to find a two-horned coconut for the temple’s puja.
