Location:

• Situated in Sukkampatti, near Salem, Tamil Nadu, also known as Devagiri.
• The temple is located on a small hill, around 500 feet above ground.

Unique Feature:

• The sun shines directly on the deity every evening, a rare sight for devotees.

History & Puranic Significance:

• No documented history, but believed to have been built before the time of Tipu Sultan.
• Renovated on 7th September 1818, as indicated by inscriptions.
• The temple has been part of various significant local events, although specific historical details are scarce.
• The name of the hill is associated with marriage rituals and the beginning of marriages.

Key Deities:

• Udayadevareeswarar (Lord Shiva) is the main deity.
• Vinayagar, Chandikeswarar, and Nandi are also part of the temple.
• Udayadevareeswari Amman idol was added later, to the right of Shiva.

Rituals & Festivals:

• Celebrates Pradosham, Poornami Pujas, and Karthika Deepa festival.
• Special abhishekam and decorative worship are performed at midnight on full moon days.
• Devotees believe that attending Poornami Pooja for three consecutive full moons removes marriage hurdles and Navagraha doshas.

• Tying yellow flowers to the neem tree in front of Udayadevarewari Amman can fulfill wishes within three months.
