Introduction

It Situated at an altitude of 7,000 feet in the Pratapnagar block of Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Dedicated to Lord Krishna in the form of Sem Mukhem Nagaraja. Believed to be the place where Lord Krishna sought mental peace after the Mahabharata war. Referred to as Uttar Dwarika, emphasizing its divine importance. Inside the temple, a uniquely shaped stone is worshipped as Nagaraja. Pilgrims offer Nag Nagaraja pairs as a symbol of devotion and reverence. Offers breath taking panoramic views of the valley. The temple’s serene surroundings make it a tranquil retreat for devotees and visitors. The Sem Mukhem Nagraja Temple is located in a relatively remote region of Tehri Garhwal but can be accessed via a beautiful trek through the Himalayan terrain.

Krishna’s Visit:

  • Lord Shri Krishna was drawn to the beauty and purity of the region and decided to stay.
    • Krishna requested land from King Ramola, his brother-in-law, but the king initially refused as he did not hold Krishna in high regard.
    • After much persuasion, King Ramola granted Krishna a piece of land where he kept his cows and buffaloes.

  • Krishna built a temple, which is now known as Sem Nagaraja.
    • King Ramola was unaware of Krishna’s presence in the area.

Divine Revelation to the Nagvanshi King:

  • Krishna appeared in the dream of the Nagvanshi king, revealing his presence.
    • Eager to meet Krishna, the Nagvanshi king planned a visit with his army.

Conflict & Realization:

  • King Ramola blocked the Nagvanshi king’s entry, leading to a potential conflict.
    • Before the battle escalated, the Nagvanshi king saw Krishna’s divine form and recognized his presence.
    • King Ramola repented for his actions upon realizing Krishna’s greatness.

Krishna as Nagaraja:

  • Krishna became known as Nagaraja, the king of the Nagavanshis.
    • He chose to remain in the form of a large stone in the temple.
    • Devotees worship this sacred stone, believing it holds Krishna’s essence and fulfills countless wishes.
