Introduction

Sri Vasanthavalli Mahalakshmi Sametha Vasanthavallapa Raja Perumal Temple is situated in V.N. Palayam, Sangagiri Taluk, Salem District. The temple is conveniently located just 1 km from the Sangagiri bus stand, A unique feature of this temple is the presence of Lord Anjaneya in a standing posture, facing south. Devotees express their prayers and wishes to him by sending letters, believing that their desires will be fulfilled through his divine grace.

Puranic Significance

When Ravana abducted Sita, everyone, including Lord Rama, sought ways to rescue her. However, Anjaneya believed that only deep penance could ensure her safe return. He chose Sangagiri Hill as the sacred spot for his meditation. This is where the temple dedicated to him stands today.

During penance, one is not supposed to verbally express their desires or requests. In ancient times, devotees would write their wishes on “Olaichuvadi’ and place them before Anjaneya. Over time, this practice evolved into a tradition of sending requests via postal, earning him the name Thabal Anjaneyar.

Originally enshrined on the hill, the idol of Anjaneya was relocated in the 17th century to the Vallabharaja Perumal Temple at the base of the hill, where he continues to be worshipped.

Beliefs

Devotees can write their requests and place them at the shrine. Those who are unable to visit the temple in person can send their prayers by mail to the address: Thabal anjaneyar, Opposite Government Medical Centre, V.N. Palayam Post, Sangakiri. Every Sunday at 6 PM, the temple priests collect and separate the letters received and perform a special puja. Once their wishes are fulfilled, devotees express their gratitude by offering a Tulsi Mala.
