Introduction

Adhinathar Jain Temple is a historic temple dedicated to Adhinathar, the first Tirthankara in Jainism, located in Salukkai Village of Thiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu. The temple, known as Veera Kerala Perum Palli during the 11th century AD, holds immense spiritual and historical significance, as evidenced by an ancient inscription found near the temple. Salukkai is situated 4 kilometers from Vandavasi on the route to Kanchipuram. The nearest railway station is at Vandavasi, and the nearest airport is in Chennai.

Puranic Significance

The Adhinathar Jain Temple is believed to be over 1000 years old, making it an important site for Jain heritage.

Architecture and Layout:
- The present temple structure was built upon an ancient basement, preserving its historical significance.
- The temple faces east and features a north entrance gate with a pathway leading inside.
- A guest house within the temple complex provides accommodation for visiting devotees.
- The sanctum houses a 5-foot-tall granite statue of Shri Adhinathar, positioned on a plinth.
- The old Moolavar statues are placed in a sheltered area in the back corridor of the temple.
Vimana and Features:
- The sanctum is crowned with a simple single-stage Vimanam, topped with a Shikhara and a Kalasha.
- The Griva circle beneath the Nasi features seated depictions of Jinas in all four cardinal directions.
- Alloy idols of Tirthankaras, a 24 Jinars mold, and a mini Ashtamangal set are arranged before the main deity.
Security:
The entire vedi-block is secured with iron grill gates, ensuring the safety of the idols and temple premises.
