1. Introduction:
   • The Mari Amman Temple is approximately 500 years old and is located in Rasipuram, near Namakkal, Tamil Nadu.
   • The temple’s origins are believed to have started when people were digging a field and discovered blood coming from the ground, which led to the discovery of a Goddess statue in the form of a Linga.
   • The Goddess reportedly entered a devotee, instructing them to build a temple for her in the village.
   • The temple is situated amidst four hills: Kolli Malai, Alavai Malai, Natha Malai, and Bodha Malai.
   • A unique feature of the temple is a wooden post with three branches representing the Goddess’ husband (Kambam), symbolizing her constant connection with him, leading to her being called “Nithya Sumangali.” It is believed that worshipping the Goddess ensures marital bliss and longevity for women.
2. Puranic Significance:
   • The temple’s origin is linked to a farmer who discovered the bleeding land while tilling and found the swayambu (self-manifested) deity of the Goddess.
   • Following the discovery, people built a temple and installed an idol of Mother Mari Amman.
   • A key tradition in Mari Amman temples is the installation of a wooden post with three branches (Kambam) in front of the Goddess, symbolizing her husband. It is said that the Goddess can always see this post, which is why she is revered as “Nitya Sumangali” (Eternal Married Woman).
   • Women worship the Goddess for marital bliss and longevity of their Mangalsutras (wedding necklaces).
   • A unique puja is performed by women seeking a child boon during the Aipasi festival, where they replace the old Kambam with a new one and offer curd rice as nivedhana at a nearby well. This ritual is believed to bless them with a child.
3. Beliefs:
   • Devotees pray to Mari Amman for healing from diseases, especially those suffering from vision problems.
   • A special prayer, Angapradakshinam (body circumambulation), is performed with fire pots by devotees seeking relief from ailments.
4. Special Features:
   • The Mari Amman in the temple is a swayambu murthy (self-manifested idol) and is honored with the title “Nitya Sumangali.”
   • Cooked raw rice is offered as nivedhana (sacred food offering) to the Goddess.
   • The temple’s Vinayaka is revered as “Anugnai Vinayaka” (the giver of permission).
   • The vimana (tower above the sanctum) of the temple is designed in a hexagonal shape.
   • A swing mandap is present, where devotees seeking child boons move the swing to and fro with prayers.
5. Festivals:
   • A 15-day festival is observed during the month of Aipasi (October-November), which is considered a lucky time for devotees to worship the Goddess.
   • During the festival, the Goddess is decorated with flowers called “Poochattu,” and special worship rituals take place.
