Introduction
Poraiyar Amman Temple is dedicated to Draupadi Amman, located in the Poraiyar village, Nagapattinam district, Tamilnadu. This is the famous Draupadi Amman Temple in Palaiyaru village. The ancient architecture of this ancient temple looks like it was built during the reign of a king. The Temple is believed to be more than1000 years old. The temple has been worshiped as a small temple in old days. Devotees have decided to expand the temple. It was subsequently converted into a stone building in 2006 and consecrated. Then in the year 2020 it was further expanded and some shrines were set up. Located at a distance of half a kilometre from Tharangambadi on the road from Sirkazhi to Karaikal, the temple is located on the Amman Kovil Street.
Puranic Significance
The ancient architecture of this ancient temple looks like it was built during the reign of a king. The Temple is believed to be more than1000 years old. On the east side of the front hall of the temple, there is a statue of Goddess Draupadi. The Kodimara Mandapam, there are altars, Aravan and Kali Amman shrines. In the prakaram one can find Sangadahara Ganesha, Valli Devan Sametha Subramanian, Durga and Kasi Kalabhairava. There are Lakshmi Narayanan and Anjaneyar shrines. In the Ardha Mandapam, one can see the idols of Ganesha, Arjuna, Krishna, Gomati Amman and Ursava. In the sanctum facing east, Draupadi Amman gives a magnificent view of the kolat with a fork in hand. He is said to be the great benefactor who bestows all blessings, including the blessing of a child.
Beliefs
Devotees believe that if a childless couple comes to Ambal to worship “Nei deepam” on 5 Mondays, he will be blessed with that blessing.
Similarly, those who have a marriage ban can anoint Ambal with mind-blowing flower garland to remove all obstacles and get married.
They attend a special puja on the day of Bhairavashtami and offer special prayers. They chant the Bhairava mantra 1008 times and pray. The hope is that doing so will remove all the flaws, get rid of the debt problem and grow the business.
