It is located immediately after Vayalur and the big Palar bridge, to the right (west) side of the ECR while going from Chennai. The temple is located in a tiny rocky island on one side of the Palar River in a beautiful environment. The temple is about 80 kms from Chennai. On the ECR if one proceeds five kilometers from Kalpakkam, you can reach the Vayalur Bridge. About a km from the Vayalur bridge is a junction called Kaathan Kadai. Turn right at this junction and proceed towards Anaicuttu Salai. In Anaicuttu Salai you will see a board which directs you towards Natham Parameswaramangalam. Kailasanatha Temple is located on the Palar River.

Puranic Significance

There was no Ambal in the past. Only Shiva Lingam was present. However sadly, the present structure is totally new and while renovation; a new Ambal has been kept here. There are shrines of Nandi, Navagraha are present in this Temple. Strong and rugged stones at the backside of the temple protect the temple from water gushing even during severe floods in the Palar River. During Panguni Uthiram celebration of Kailasanathar and kamakshi wedding takes place here. A small bridge across the Palar has been constructed by the temple authorities to reach the temple. As per inscription available in the temple, it was built in 800 AD during the regime of Nripatunga Varma Pallavan. The beautiful legend sculpture (only the foot marks) at the back of the temple shows Kailasanathar in meditation in rain, with a Rajanagam covering him as an umbrella and a cow pouring milk on him. Presiding deity was worshipped by Sukha Brahmma rishi. The temple was renovated with calcium (sudhai) only without using cement. The Kumbabishegam took place in Feb 2013.
