Introduction
One of the oldest temples of this city is the Kadameshwar Mahadev Temple located in the Kadamba Vana behind the Jaleshwar Mandir. This temple like the Jaleshwar Mandir is situated atop a hill and offers a panoramic view of the sangam of Maheshwar River and Narmada River. The Primary deity is called as Kadambeshwar Mahadev.
Puranic Significance
According to the locals, Mandana Mishra used to spend a great deal of time in this temple studying the scriptures and worshipping the Shiva Linga consecrated here. Even Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya is said to have visited this temple.
The legendary debate between Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya and Mandana Mishra took place in the presence of the latter’s wife who also engaged in a lengthy discussion on the quintessence of the Vedas with Adi Shankara at Gupteshwar Mahadev Temple in Mandleshwar on the banks of the Rewa River not far from here. After Jagadguru defeated the both of them, they begged to be accepted as his disciples. The padukas have also been installed within the premises. This temple sits in the midst of stunning natural beauty and hardly has any visitors
