Introduction

Kilakkadu Virupaatcheesvarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kilakkadu village, Valangaiman circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Kilakkadu – This temple is located near the famous town Alangudi. There was an ancient Shiva temple here on the banks of the river, which was destroyed by the passage of time, so a new Shiva temple was built by the efforts of the people. This Shiva temple is an East facing temple. Here the Lord’s name is Virupaatcheesvarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki.

Puranic Significance

The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. The temple is in the big complex. The Lord faces the east and has a lofty plane, and in front of him is a Nandi. Vinayagar is in the small house. In the hall there are two Thirumal idols and Sridevi idol. Ambigai has a separate temple towards the south. Between these two sanctums there is a single shrine for Nadaraja. The Bhairava shrine towards the west, a sage is in yoga in padmasana, he may be Virupakshadev. In Karurai, Tenmugan and Brahmin are there and they have maintained the power of Lingoth.
