Introduction
The Varadaraja Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Kanipakam Village, near Chittoor City, Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple is situated in close proximity to the Kanipakam Vinayagar Temple.
Puranic Significance
- The temple was constructed in the early 11th century CE by the Chola Emperor Kulothunga Chola I and was later expanded in 1336 by the Kings of the Vijayanagara dynasty.
- The idol of Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka is believed to be growing in size and will continue to do so until the end of Kaliyuga, after which Sri Vinayaka will appear in person.
- A sacred well from which Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka is believed to have manifested still exists within the temple. The holy water from this well is distributed as prasadam to devotees.
- The temple is known for its miraculous idol and is considered highly significant in terms of religious and spiritual importance. The water found in the temple complex is believed to have healing properties and can cure various deformities.
- Pilgrims often visit this temple before proceeding to Tirupati, as it is a Vinayaka Temple and holds a special place in their spiritual journey.
