Introduction
Location:
- Situated in Dodda Mallur village, Channapatna Taluk, Ramanagara District, Karnataka.

- The temple is located 2 km after Channapatna, with a right turn onto a village road before reaching Dodda Mallur.
Presiding Deity:
- Lord Narasimha Swamy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is the main deity of the temple.
Puranic Significance:
- The temple is believed to be around 1000 years old, dating back to the 11th century.
- Renovations occurred about 100 years ago, with only the exterior walls and coverings being additions.
- The temple is located on the banks of the Kanva River, originally named Nirmala.
- Sage Kanva is said to have performed severe penance here, after which the river was renamed.
- The temple is associated with a legend in which King Saraangadaara, disobeying Sage Kanva, was cursed, leading to the destruction of the village. Following the prayers of the local people, Lord Narasimha ordered the building of the temple on this site.
- The Maharaja of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, later donated 12 acres of land for the temple’s maintenance.
Beliefs:
- Devotees seeking blessings tie an unpeeled coconut and walk around the shrine 48 times. After completing the circumambulation, they take the coconut home to eat.
- Chanting the Moolamantra 108 times or completing 48 rounds around the shrine is believed to fulfill the devotee’s wishes.
Special Features:
- The temple is known as Nadi Narasimhaswamy because it is located on the banks of the Kanva River, where Sage Kanva performed his penance.
- The temple follows a Dravidian-style architecture and is an Ekakuta (single dome) structure without a pedestal, facing east.
- The idol of Lord Narasimha Swamy is made of black stone, seated with Sri Lakshmi Devi on his lap.
- Inside the temple, there are small statues of the Dasavathara forms of Lord Vishnu and a beautiful idol of Lord Hanuman in a meditative posture.
- Devotees offer unpeeled coconuts tied on two iron rods inside the temple and place lemons near the shrine to seek blessings.
