Introduction
- Location: Chennivakkam Village, Ponneri Taluk, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.
- Age: Over 1000 years old.
Puranic Significance:
- The temple was founded after traders found an idol of Lord Veerabhadra with the help of Ambika in a dream.
- The idol was found buried in the ground, and a temple was built upon its discovery, making the deity known as Kalyana Veerabhadra.
Beliefs:
- Devotees pray for fearlessness, children’s welfare, and successful marriages.
- Offerings include sandal abishekam, betel garlands, and Nivedhanas like sarkarai pongal, pepper pongal, pepper vada, and sundal.
Special Features:
- Presiding Deity: Kalyana Veerabhadra, also called Than Thondri Veerabhadra (idol found from the ground).
- Nandi Vahana: Located opposite the Lord, alongside Vinayaka’s and Muruga’s vahanas.
- Chandikeswara Shrine: Located to the left of Lord Veerabhadra.
- Mother Maragatha Badhrambikai: Goddess made of emerald stone, holding trident, sword, Udukkai, and Dhandam.
- Akora Veerabhadra: Found in the prakara; pujas offered after Lord Veerabhadra’s rituals.
- Shrines dedicated to Somasundarar, Bhairava, Sundarambikai, Mahalakshmi, Gangadevi, and Sani Bhagwan.
