• Location: The Mahadev Mandir is an ancient Shiva temple located at Bhavnath village, near Junagadh, Gujarat. It is situated at the foothills of Mount Girnar, approximately 5 km from Junagadh Junction.
• Significance: Known for its historical and religious importance, Bhavnath Temple is one of the most popular temples in Gujarat and a major pilgrimage site in Junagadh. The Shivling here is believed to have emerged on its own, making it a sacred site for Shiva worshippers.

• Ancient Origins: The Bhavnath Mahadev Temple’s history dates back to ancient times, with its origins rooted in Puranic texts. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Shivling is said to have appeared through divine will.
• Mythological Story: According to legend, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were once crossing the Girnar hills. During their journey, their divine garment fell on the Mrigi Kund, transforming the place into a holy site for Shiva worship. This sacred event led to the temple’s establishment as an auspicious location.
• Modern Rituals: To honor the purity of the site, naked sadhus (Naga Sadhus) bathe in the Mrigi Kund before participating in the Mahashivaratri procession. The temple’s ancient origins make its exact history somewhat obscure, but its significance continues to attract devotees.

• Annual Festivals:
  • Maha Shivaratri: The most significant festival, celebrated with great fervor. The Bhavnath fair, which lasts five days, culminates on Maha Shivaratri. The festival features numerous Naga Sadhus who bathe in the Mrigi Kund and offer prayers at the temple. It is believed that Lord Shiva himself visits the shrine on this holy day.
  • Girnar Lili Parikrama: Held in October-November, this festival involves a circular pilgrimage around the Girnar Mountain, covering approximately 40 km. This event includes the hoisting of the Dhvaja (flag) and lasts for five days. Devotees believe that Lord Shiva visits the temple on this day.
• Pilgrimage: The temple attracts lakhs of pilgrims from regions like Mewar, Kutch, and Gujarat, who come to participate in the festivals and seek blessings.
