Introduction

Location:

• The Pavana Narasimha Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Ahobilam, Andhra Pradesh, on the banks of the River Pavana.
• The temple is nestled in the forest, making it one of the most difficult Nava Narasimha temples to access. The site is renowned as a Kshetra Ratna (jewel among the sacred places).
• Devotees can reach the temple by climbing a series of steep steps that begin near the Sri Ahobilam Narasimha Temple, or they may travel by jeep, though the roads are not well-maintained, and it is not recommended to visit after 5 pm due to the presence of wild animals in the forest.

Puranic Significance:

• The temple is known as Pavana Narasimha because it is situated on the banks of the River Pavana, and the Lord is believed to be in his most peaceful form among the nine Narasimha forms.
• The Lord here is also called Pamuleti Narasimha Swamy. Devotees believe that worshiping him can liberate them from all sins—both past and present, whether committed knowingly or unknowingly.
• Sage Bharadwaja, who had committed the grave sin of Brahma-hatya (the killing of a Brahmin), was relieved of his sin upon worshiping Lord Narasimha at this temple.

Beliefs:

• Devotees visit the temple seeking liberation from all sins, and it is believed that the Lord grants relief from both past and present misdeeds.

• The Pavana Narasimha Swamy Temple is thought to be 1500 years old.
• The Presiding Deity, Pavana Narasimha, is depicted with a seven-headed Adhisesha above his head and Chenchu Lakshmi sitting on his lap.
• Sage Bharadwaja can be seen at the Lord’s feet, representing the relief of his sins.
• The deity is associated with Mercury (Budha), and he is believed to have control over this planet.

Festivals:

• The Narasimha Jayanthi festival is celebrated for 10 days during the Vaikasi month (May-June).
• The Pavitrotsavam is also celebrated for 10 days in the Aippasi month (October-November).
