Introduction

Sri Kasi Vishwanthar temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in Thillaiyadi village, Tharanagambadi circle, Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu State, India. It is located 33 KM towards North from District head quarters Nagapattinam. In the center of the town is a Shiva temple with a high tower called Periyakoil. An 800years old Shiva temple is located in the same Thillaiyadi village. There is a Ganesha temple in the northeastern part of the perimeter of the Periyakoil, and a small single-lane road leading north towards the Ganesha temple leads to the banks of the river Mahimalai. This Great Temple is in ruins State.

Puranic Significance

Kasiviswanathar temple was built in 5 villages of Thillaiyadi, Devanur, Porayar, Kottupalayam and Olugaimangalam with the same goddess Visalachchi. The Kasiviswanathar temples at Porayar and Devanur and Kottupalayam are in good condition. However, the Kasiviswanathar Temple in Thillaiyadi is in a state of disrepair and is surrounded by trees, so where devotees cannot go and worship. Workers said that Thillaiyadi Saravanan had faced many difficulties and humiliations in exposing the temple. The front hall was still in ruins, displaying its beauty. The round walls are crumbling and sloping, and the folds are crumbling. The front hall of the Lord’s sanctuary has been demolished. The sanctuary of the Lord is facing east. The location of the sanctuary of Ambika is unknown. Ganesha, Murugan, Koshta deities, Sandesar Visalachchi, Nandi are all seen staring at each other in the corridor in front of the Lord.
