Introduction

A historical temple of Nageswara Swamy buried in sand was unearthed at Perumallapadu, near Chejerla, in Nellore district. The temple, which according to the legend was consecrated by Lord Parasurama, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, got buried over a long period of time as river Penna changed its course. The brick structure may have got submerged in sand dunes probably after the 1850 floods, under Archaeology. This 200-year-old Hindu temple in India was rediscovered by locals after being buried for some 80 years. (ANI) Nageswara Swamy was buried by sand and sediment from the river as the Penna meandered.

Puranic Significance

200-year-old Hindu temple that was buried in sand along India’s Penna River for almost a century has been rediscovered, reports Asia News International (ANI). The temple, called Nageswara Swamy, is located in the town of Perumallapadu within India’s eastern state of Andhra Pradesh, that the plans for the temple’s reconstruction will depend on consultations with priests and elders as well as the condition of an idol to the Hindu god Shiva located within the temple.
